The daughter of a doctor, Linda Carter was a registered nurse who worked at Metro-General hospital. After a broken engagement to a wealthy businessman - Marshall Michaels - who wanted Linda to give up her career for marriage, Linda found herself in the crosshairs of danger one night. She was saved by a masked vigilante - Nomad - and decided to put her medical skills to use by becoming a healthcare practitioner for the superhero community. Linda went back to school, became a doctor, and established a small, private clinic hidden in Manhattan's Chinatown, near Orchard Street.
Now called the Night Nurse (Night General Practitioner just didn't have the same, zippy, alliterative ring to it) Linda formed close relationships with Daredevil, Captain America, and Doctor Strange while providing care to the superhero community at large.

During the Civil War event, Linda sided with Captain America and the anti-registration act Secret Avengers, assisting operations from SHIELD Safe House 23.

Night Nurse has helped Doctor Strange when he was shot by Hitler's Handgun and left for dead. She's also worked with healing Luke Cage, Danny Rand, Arana, Black Tarantula, Spider-Man, Firestar, and many others. Amongst her most notable romantic entanglements are relationships with Doctor Strange and Hawkeye.

Linda is very serious about her job, to the point where it sometimes feels as though she's cut herself off from the outside world. She can be warm and kind to her patients, but she's also very no-nonsense and straight forward. She is very protective of, and maintains a very close guard over the secrety with which she maintains her dual identity and the identities of her patients. She's moved the location of her clinic a few times in order to maintain secrecy for her patients.

Linda has expert medical training and is certified as a general medical physician and as a registered nurse.
